On August 5, the Rio Olympic Games will open in Brazil. Here is an overview of the Sector’s products used in the sports facilities.
The mythical Brazilian stadium, Maracan? was revamped in 2014 in preparation for the FIFA World Cup. Covered by over 60,000m2 of SHEERFILL?Architectural Membrane (Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics), it will notably host the Games’ opening and closing ceremonies. This membrane ensures greater comfort for spectators, shielding the public from the heat while allowing diffuse sunlight to fill the space below. The football stadiums Mineir?o, Fonte Nova Arena and Mané Garrincha are also equipped with Sheerfill.
Saint-Gobain Adfors’s glass veil facer for insulating products was also used in the ISOSOUND acoustic panels for walls and ceilings (supplied by Isover Brazil), in the Maracan? stadium, and also in the Corinthians Arena, where some women and men’s football matches will be held. The Activity has also supplied 400m2 of Novelio wall covering for the Main Press Center’s elevator hall. In addition, 1,608 Green Glue? tubes (Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics) have been used to acoustically insulate the building.
Cebrace, the joint venture between Saint-Gobain Glass and NSG Group in Brazil, supplied 6,000m2 of laminated, solar control SGG COOL-LITE ST glass for the fa?ades of the IBC, (International Broadcast Centre), a building set up to centralize the broadcast of the Games.
Lastly, Saint-Gobain Abrasives supplied material and cutting machines for the urban transport equipment of Rio de Janeiro, the olympic village and the Deodoro complex, where the equestrian events will take place.
